About me I began my career in nursing in 1977 such a long time ago. I started out in medical surgical nursing. I spent time working in a camp for children with special needs (developmental disabilities, Mental Retardation, Rare Disorders) and I worked in maternal and child health. I came upon my present job purely by accident. A friend called to ask if I wanted to work for the summer for students with special needs. I accepted. Thus began, a career in special needs nursing or otherwise known as developemental disability nursing. I currently work as the nurse coordinator of a collaborative that provides special education to children from age 3 to 22 years. I have been in this position for several years now and have only scratched the surface of this immense specialty. Personally, I have been married for 30 years. I have 5 children, all of which have special needs and 2 grandchildren. I understand the anxiety and stress involved with raising children with special needs. I hope I can help and in some way give hope to families with children with special needs. I also hope to educate and provide a resource for both families and nurses.
